“weird math formula”:

1+1 = 3

Ganito kasi ‘yan…

There are things that when another thing is added to them, you get 3 things (or more) instead of only 2.

For example, supplement companies usually combine INGREDIENT A with INGREDIENT B to make INGREDIENT A more absorbable.

(A specific example would be Calcium and Vitamin D. Vitamin D increases the efficiency of calcium absorption. And without adequate Vitamin D, the body absorbs no more than 10% to 15% of dietary calcium – sobrang daming tapon na Calcium kung walang Vitamin D. May sense na ba ‘yung 1 + 1 = 3? 😁)

Similarly, when you combine INGREDIENT C and INGREDIENT D, they’d make a stronger reaction than if you take them separately.

(Example ulit: Probiotics and Prebiotics. Probiotics are beneficial bacteria for gut health, while prebiotics are fibers that act as food for these bacteria. When taken together, they work synergistically to improve gut health more effectively than when taken separately.)

Medyo naging nerd ako dun, forgive me, pero I hope that you now see that the “weird formula” isn’t that weird after all. 😁

Well…

Sadly, unfortunately, regrettably, and disappointingly… (🥲😅)

Most people think that…

Fitness is just a “standalone” area of their lives.

What they don’t realize is that THIS “false belief” is actually preventing them from living their best lives. Without knowing it, they’re their own biggest obstacle, leading many to feel unhappy — extremely unhappy.

Even those who think they’re content can sense deep down that something’s amiss. They can't pinpoint what it is, but there's a lingering feeling that something just isn’t right.

For example: 

I have this friend na nagtravel sa Vietnam several months back.
Their 3rd day was dedicated to mountain hiking.

800 stair steps.

“Kaya ko naman ‘yan,” he said. “Kinaya ko nga ‘yung ilang kilometers na pasyal nung mga nakaraang araw. From morning to evening pa ‘yun. Eight hundred lang naman pala.”

What he didn’t know was that:

Uneven ‘yung steps. More like “bato” rather than hagdan pala ‘yung “stair steps”. Ang tataas daw nung mga hakbang. 😅🤣😂

“Siguro mga 1/4 ng height ko ‘yung average height nung steps,” he told me. “Some steps nasa malapit na sa bewang ko.”

(Napatanong din ako ano bang “BIG DEAL” sa 800 stair steps eh. Now I know. 😆😂)

“Anyways… Sobrang worth it naman nung akyat kasi sobrang majestic ng view sa taas,” he said. 

“It’s just that, sobrang worried nung wife ko nung nasa pinakataas na kami kasi sobrang nahirapan ako makahinga at namumutla na daw ako. Hindi n’ya daw alam kung paano ako dadalhin sa ospital kung sakali. 😅”

And THAT…
was his wake-up call.

“Ang dami ko na ngang pera ngayon pero hindi ko naman ma-enjoy ‘yung mga nabibili ng pera ko such as this travel,” he said. 

“Mas focused pa ako sa paghinga ko sa taas kesa sa pag-enjoy ko ng view eh. Hindi nawala agad ‘yung hingal ko ah? The whole time na nasa taas kami hinihingal lang ako. ANG TABA KO NA KO NA KASI. Muntik pa ako mamatay sa pinaggagawa ko. 😅”

Balikan natin ‘yung “weird math formula” quickly.

In my friend’s case, ganito s’ya:

1 (Success) + (-1) (Fitness) =
-1 (Has The Ability To Travel But Almost Died)

(I know, messed up ‘yung math.
Though you’d probably agree with me na negative ‘yung experience n’ya since ‘muntik’ na s’ya mamatay. 😅)

For so many years of doing fitness, hindi ako nagkaron ng magandang result just because kala ko alam ko na ‘yung ginagawa ko… hindi pa pala.

For 4 years, kala ko tama ‘yung pinaggagawa ko sa gym and meals ko. Sabi nila “fitness is a slow process” daw so kahit hindi ako nakakakita ng visible results, I never bothered checking.

“Lalabas din ‘yang abs ko,” I told myself.

After 4 years of consistent hard work, walang abs na lumabas. 😔

Sayang.

Ilang taon din ‘yun.

magandang genetics.

Hindi ako pinagpala ng magandang genetics.

Like most people, I wasn’t born with broad shoulders, a square chest, malapad na back, or even beefy arms.

(Grabe ang nipis ko pala talaga noon. 😅)

Pero I found a way to make my dream physique a reality for me and for my students who also have sh*tty genetics. (HINT: I discussed what my students and I did in my training above.)

FACT ABOUT COACH CHO #3:

TAMAD AKO. 😅

“Coach Cho! Tamad ka pa n’yan na 5-6x a week ka kung mag-gym?!?”

Well…

Dati ‘yun. 😆

Hindi ko pa kasi alam nun na I can transform my body in just 100 days at a time without spending most of my days inside the gym. 😁
(I didn’t know na pwede pala na kahit 3x a week lang tapos significant and visible pa din ‘yung results. 👀)

Pero sige, sabihin na nating “masipag” ako noon. Kaso sa fitness lang ‘yun. 🥲

Other areas of my life?

Wala.

Sobrang tamad.

Wala ngang direction sa buhay eh.

In fact, after I figured out how to get ripped and after actually making it a reality…

Wala na akong ibang ginawa but to flaunt it.

Pucha.

I celebrated.

I partied.

I partied hard.

I partied whenever I could.

Eto na ‘yung hinihintay ko eh.

I mean… anong gagawin ko sa malaking katawan ko, ‘di ba? HAHA!

Girls and parties were fun.

At first.

But I realized that the reason why I was living my life at a fast pace was because ayokong abutan nung humahabol sa’kin na emptiness, shame, guilt, sadness, regrets, etc.

Pero ayun.

I wasn’t fast enough and inabutan din ako eventually. 😅

It was when my daughter asked for help sa assignment n’ya: “Daddy, ano ilalagay kong answer dito sa assignment ko?”

Around Grade 1 s’ya nun if I’m not mistaken so kala ko it was something that an adult like me would be able to easily answer.

Kaso…

The question was: “What does your father do for a living?”

(If you’re a mom or even a single woman and naiinis ka kasi bakit “father” ‘yung implied na “dapat” may trabaho… Chill lang. 😅 That’s not the point of this story. I’m mentioning this because I want you, amazing superwomen, to know that you are seen and acknowledged.)

Ayun.

My heart broke.

Pinagsinungaling ko pa ‘yung anak ko kasi pinasulat ko na lang sa kanya “self-employed” or “business owner”. The truth was, tambay lang talaga ako noon. Asa lang kaming dalawa sa nanay ko noon eh. Pero s’yempre ayoko naman mapahiya ‘yung anak ko, di ba?
(It still breaks my heart every time naaalala ko ‘to.)

That same day, I made a promise to myself to do everything in my power so that my kid would be proud to call me “Dad”.

FACT ABOUT COACH CHO #4:

I got too busy with my business and
tumaba ulit ako. 😅

After my daughter’s life-changing question, I committed to becoming a better person and father.

Hindi ‘yung puro papogi.

Ayun.

I bought courses and hired mentors.

I got paid as a freelance writer.

I published my own blog.

I learned how to sell.

Eventually, I created and sold my first ever digital products.

I’m not sure if you’re familiar with Minimalist Fitness but it’s the step-by-step system that has transformed thousands of Filipino lives. Here are some of them:

I figured it out!

But because I got ‘too focused’ on my business (a.k.a trying to prove myself)...

Napabayaan ko naman ‘yung katawan ko:

Hindi lang ‘yung katawan ko ‘yung napabayaan ko.

Pagiging tatay ko.

Relationships ko.

And other personal stuff.

Lahat ‘yun napabayaan ko.

Business lang talaga ‘yung gumanda.

The MOST FRUSTRATING thing was that alam ko naman na paano ko papagandahin ‘yung katawan ko kasi nagawa ko na din naman na dati pero hindi ako makabalik balik.

Puro ako Day 1.

Puro ako “Monday na lang”.

(Unfortunately, fitness ‘yung una kong naisip na area na ayusin kasabay nung business. I know may mga mas importanteng bagay pa pero dun kasi ako magaling eh. Mahirap for me to accept na tumaba ako. Don’t worry. May character development naman dito sa story na ‘to. 😅)

I really tried but I couldn't at that time.

Sabi ko:

“I can only be consistent & disciplined at a very few things. Di pwedeng sabay sabay at may mapapabayaan talaga.”

Basically...

If my business is doing great, it’s “normal” na mapabayaan ko ‘yung fitness ko at tumaba.

That belief held me back until…

FACT ABOUT COACH CHO #5:

I figured out a way to become Cho Version 2.0 not just in fitness but also in every aspect of my life.

After being aware of my sh*tty situation, hindi ko alam anong pumasok sa isip ko but my first response was to hire more mentors.

MORE EXPENSIVE MENTORS.

I hired Craig first for $1,500 per month for 4 months.

$1,500 was around P75,000 that time.

Kung 4 months, that means I paid a total of P300,000 just to get my sh*t together. 😅

Ang sakit. HAHA!

So s’yempre, sinulit ko.

I maximized his time, my accountability group, and the premium community of high-level individuals – which were all part of the program.

(High-Level Community)

Last Kaizen Season 4, we finally moved away from Facebook Groups and it was the best decision I’ve ever made in this mentorship program.

We’re now using Circle, an app for communities. It’s like a Facebook Group but more powerful. (Web and mobile apps are both available so super convenient gamitin.)

Anyway, I noticed that the engagement rate skyrocketed and we got more results overall compared to the previous seasons when we were still using FB Groups.

One factor that contributed to this success was the elimination of distraction from FB's News Feed. (When we were still in FB, minsan daw may makikkita silang chismis tapos makakalimutan na nila ‘yung gagawin nila inside our group. 😅)

Q: “Matututukan ba talaga kami if everything is done online?”

A: Yes. We’ve done this with hundreds of systems and we have a proven system that makes sure every single one of our mentee is guided.

Q: “Hindi pa rin clear sa’kin clear kung paano magwowork ‘yung program especially kung sobrang daming enrollees.”

Balance ‘yung exercise distribution in this “workout menu” na pwede mo pagpilian to make sure walang body part na maiiwan.

Don’t worry if you also have no idea kung paano ba i-execute ‘yung workout because we provide detailed instructional videos to ensure that you’re doing them correctly.

Q: “Pwede ba home workouts lang?”

A: Meron tayong home workout variations so you don’t have to leave the comfort of your own home. Perfect for introverts like me. HAHA!

A: Inside Kaizen, we work around food, be it losing weight or gaining weight.

So if may nutrition challenges ka (ex. hindi attracted sa pagkain, lactose intolerant, etc..), we will provide tools and guides so we’re able to solve all (or most) of your nutrition concerns.

This way, on track ka pa rin in achieving your desired physique even if you are struggling with your food choices.

Q: “Payat/lean ako, pwede ba ako magpalaki ng katawan sa Kaizen?”

A: Oo naman! Mas madami lang talagang overweight na Filipinos kaya mas madami kaming wins on weight loss.

Pero madami din kaming mentees, like si Joms, na payat tapos pinalaki namin ‘yung katawan.

Q: “Single mom/dad ako. Sobrang busy. Worried ako baka hindi kaya ng schedule…”

A: I get it. Being a single parent is undoubtedly one of life's most challenging roles. Juggling parenting, work, and personal life often leaves little room for self-care.

Q: “I live on the other side of the world. Pwede pa rin ba sumali kahit different timezone? If so, who will be part of my accountability team?”

A: We have a lot of cases like of clients living abroad and their concern is “Paano ako makakasali? Paano yung magiging teammates ko kung iba yung time zone ko?”

If you are in the US, for example, what we do is group you together with people who are in the near location and/or same time zone as yours. This way, there will be little to no adjustment at lahat makakasabay pa rin sa tracking and lessons.

Don’t worry. We’ll find a way.

Q: “I can’t afford to pay for the program in full. Is there a way to still join?

A: The Minimalist Fitness is an e-book you can read at your own pace. Pwede mo na agad sundin yung guides that I’ve written in this book as soon as you receive your copy via email.

Meanwhile, Kaizen solves the problem of consistency by having a higher-level of community and accountability .

Both give you predictable results, but if you know to yourself na okay ka naman even if you do the journey alone, go for Minimalist Fitness. Otherwise, Kaizen is the best route to go to ensure na hindi ka mao-offtrack sa fitness journey mo.

Q: “Kailangan ba muna aralin yung Minimalist Fitness before joining Kaizen?”

A: While Minimalist Fitness (MF) is the backbone of Kaizen, there’s no need for you to learn MF before joining Kaizen. Hindi naman prerequisite ‘to kasi ituturo rin namin ‘to sa loob. 😊

Q: “Is intermittent fasting okay while inside Kaizen?”

A: Hindi ‘to required pero if you prefer to do it, okay lang. The diet and workout program will still be the same.

There are Kaizen clients who do intermittent fasting too and they got the same results with those who didn’t.

Q: “I have slip disc / spinal stenosis / back pain / sciatica. Can I still join the program?”

A: As long as you have a go signal from your doctor, you’re welcome to join Kaizen.
